A message from DR. ROLANDO A. DELORINO
6th UEP President
Greetings of Peace and Unity!
Thank you so much Dr. Martires, the Officer-In-Charge, Office of the President, and all those who have taken part in the preparation of this morning’s program. This only demonstrates solidarity, professionalism, and commitment to public service above personal interest. It is high time for each one of us to buckle down to work after all the “presidential fever” has finally subsided after several weeks of its active phase.
For the information of everybody and with due respect to my fellow contenders for the presidency who also have superior qualification and competence, I was chosen through a unanimous vote by the members of the Governing Board of this University as the 6th UEP President. The trust and confidence that the board has reposed upon me has in turn drawn a great challenge for me to make some personal sacrifices and do my level best to strongly promote and embrace the time avowed ideals and core values that UEP stands for; and to provide a functional transformational leadership in making the University of Eastern Philippines a truly good performing state higher education where a culture of quality and excellence will be very much alive.
My administration is greatly inspired by my dream for UEP to become an “academically competitive, research and development focused, and fiscally strong public higher education institution.” To reinforce and complement this vision, I am determined to pursue a host of major development objectives: to enhance the relevance of UEP’s academic, research and extension programs in the light of the national development thrusts and international standards; strengthen the University’s resource generation capacity in order to provide sustained support for the viable implementation of new and existing academic, research and extension programs, systems, procedures, and resources, in keeping with the national thrusts on moral ascendancy; and broaden access to the University’s quality programs and services by the students, especially the poor but academically deserving, and the community.
I, alone as the University President, certainly cannot accomplish all these key targets without the support and cooperation of each one of you—from the vice presidents, deans, directors, heads of units, faculty, down to the non-teaching personnel. I am therefore appealing to everyone to give utmost commitment and dedication to our individual official functions in the mandated areas– more specifically academic, research, extension, and production while exercising teamwork and open communication. These are key attributes to enhancing both individual and institutional productivity as well as performance.
As we chart the future of this University, we essentially have to initiate some changes in some of our obsolete or defective policies, systems, and procedures. We have to be receptive to these projected reforms that we are envisioning, if only we are serious in developing a culture of quality and excellence in UEP.
Again, thank you and God bless the University of Eastern Philippines!
