Drs. Salvador & Sanico, bag awards
in the inter-agency RDE Review

(July 29, 2015, Catbalogan City, Samar) – Dr. Ronelie C. Salvador, CAFNR Fisheries Department Chair, and Dr. Jaime F. Sanico, Director for Extension, coveted the first and third places, respectively, in the Level 2 Cluster 3 Inter-agency RDE Review, now having the closing program, at Juvie’s Resort, Brgy. San Roque, this city.
Dr. Salvador’s study, “Generation of Novel Kappaphycus Varieties/Strains from Fused Protoplasts,” was chosen as the first best paper; while that of Dr. Sanico’s research, “Multilocation On–Farm Testing and Production of AVRDC Mungbean Accession Lines in the Province of Northern Samar” placed third. The second place was given to the NwSSU entry “Environmental Friendly (Green) Geopolymer Concrete: Case on the Experimental Investigation on the Compressive Behavior of Fly Ash-based Mortar” presented by Drs. Ernesto J. Guades and Romeo B. Santos. The awardees received each a certificate of recognition and a cash prize of 4,000.00, 3,000.00, and 2,000.00 respectively.
The three awardees plus one from SSU (Vivian L. Moya and Felisa E. Gomba with their paper “Leveraging Technology and Partnerships in Improving Banana Chips Industry in Paranas , Samar”) will present their papers in the Regional RDE Symposium to be held in October 2015. With them are seven (7) other researches that qualified for poster presentation.
From UEP, the study of Prof. Gorgonia B. Tan, “Isolation of Campylobacter jejuni from Crops and Ceca of Freshly Eviscerated Broiler Chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus Linn),” qualified for poster presentation.
For two days, (July 28-29), the Cluster 3 group, composed of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU), Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU), Samar State University (SSU), and the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP), reviewed 22 research papers, 2 of which are still on-going while 20 were already completed.
