Bangkok, Thailand: Donnady C. Lao and Leo Kevin D. Mante

attending the Formal Opening Reception of the ASEAN Workshop on Green Consumption.

UEP Students - Leo Kevin D. Mante (BSN 4) and Donnady C. Lao (BS Accty 3) along with two others from Catanduanes State University represented the Republic of the Philippines in the ASEAN Workshop on the “Role of Youth in Green Consumption: Stepping Forward to One Community” held in Siam Siam Hotel, Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand on July 15-21, 2013.

Mante and Lao joined the 48 other delegates from the ten ASEAN member-states to discuss green consumption as an environment sustainability alternative. Mante along with three other head-delegates from Brunei Darussalam, Republic of Singapore and the Kingdom of Cambodia were invited in one segment of a TV talk show of Bangkok Entertainment Company, a Royal Thai Army TV to discuss the key roles of the ASEAN youth in the universal promotion of green consumption.

The ASEAN workshop was set to provide knowledge and understanding of the concept of green consumption and tap the power of the youth in vigorously pursuing this advocacy. In particular, it zeroed in on the good practices in Thailand related to the concept. This provided the basis for exchanging views and ideas, encouraging the ASEAN youth to examine and find ways to further support, cooperate, and strengthen the environmental sustainability of the ASEAN region.

The said environmental youth workshop is one of the target objectives of the ASEAN Environmental Education Action Plan for 2014-2018 under the theme “Environmental Education for Sustainable Development”. It was organized by Department of Environmental Quality Promotion (DEQP), Ministry on Environment of the Kingdom of Thailand. # (Brenfred N. Romero, UEP Website and On-line Media Coordinator)
