UEP CS Student Council Prexy, wins Jose Rizal Model tilt
Carmela Fe A. Acuyan, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology senior student and President, College of Science Student Council was named as one of the Ten Most Outstanding Jose Rizal Model Students of the Philippines last 30 December 2014 at the Order of the Knights of Rizal (OKOR) International Headquarters, Bonifacio Drive, Port Area, Manila.
Acuyan who competed against 19 other finalists received two medals, a trophy, and a ten-thousand peso cash prize in a formal awarding ceremony graced by the OKOR Supreme Commander, Sir Jeremias C. Singson, Knight Grand Cross of Rizal (KGCR); the Chair of the 2014 JRMSP Search, Sir Virgilio R. Esguerra, KGCR; and, the OKOR Supreme Council officers and elders.
The 20 finalists were named on 22 December 2014, after a rigorous evaluation of the papers submitted by more than 200 applicants from various private and state colleges and universities in the depth and circumference of the country. For the selection of the 10 winners, a final interview, the criteria of which were based on knowledge of Rizal’s life and works, personal conviction, articulation, and projection was held a day before the awarding at the OKOR International Headquarters.
The nationwide contest is organized by the OKOR, a chartered civic and patriotic fraternal organization that honors and upholds the ideals of the Philippine national hero. Now on its 26th year, the search continues to recognize ten graduating tertiary students in the Philippines who best epitomize the Rizalian qualities of academic excellence and leadership both in campus and community-inspired activities and the Rizalian virtue of love of country, thereby serving as living models to the youth of the archipelago.
Ms. Acuyan is the eighth JRMSP from the University of Eastern Philippines. Other UEP alumni who made it to the contest were Leo Kevin Mante (2013), David Doncillo (2010), Jay Neil Verano (2009), Brenfred Romero (2006), John Delorino (2000), Atty. Roel Costuna (1989) and Manrico Embile (+)(1988). #
