UEP Faculty, Student Leaders, attend NYC-UNICEF DRRM seminar
Brenfred N. Romero, Station Manager, Huni 102.9 DYNS FM, and faculty, Department of Languages and Communication, College of Arts and Communication; Hon. Benjielyn C. de Guzman, UEP student regent; and Carmela Fe A. Acuyan, president, College of Science Student Council were endorsed by Northern Samar Governor Jose Ong as official delegates of the province in the Visayas and Mindanao leg consultative conference and workshop on the youth’s role in disaster risk reduction and management at the Crown Regency Hotel and Towers, Cebu City on 3-7 December 2014.
The Vis-Min event was attended by more than a hundred participants representing the youth sector, local government units, and national government agencies. The highlights of the occasion were the speeches of Usec. Gregorio Ramon A. Tingson, NYC Chair and Executive Officer; Asec. Jose Sixto “Dingdong” G. Dantes III, NYC Commissioner-at-Large; Asec. Jo Jan Paul J. Peňol, NYC commissioner representing Visayas; and Asec. Earl P. Saavedra, NYC commissioner representing Mindanao.
The four-day seminar-workshop emphasized that although the youth is considered as one of the most vulnerable sectors during calamities, they should be viewed and treated as equal partners in disaster risk management efforts as their potentials are valuable in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from, disasters. #
